Study shows long term benefits of Botox PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 22 November 2006
A study has shown regular treatments of Botox to be effective in the long term treatment of wrinkles and facial lines. The study will come as a rebuttal to those arguing that Botox is a short term cure, with no long term benefits.
The study compared two identical twins over a 13 year period, one of whom had received regular Botox treatment, with the other only receiving Botox treatment twice during the 13 year period. The study found that the first twin, who received Botox treatments approximately 2 to 3 times each year had no imprinted forehead or glabellar (the area between the eyebrows just above the nose) lines, whereas the other twin had noticeable facial wrinkles in both areas.

In addition, crow's feet were less noticeable in the Botox treated twin when she smiled, even 7 months after her most recent treatment, than when the minimally treated twin smiled. The areas of the face that hadn't been treated with Botox in either twin showed roughly signs of aging in both twins.

The study was conducted by William J. Binder, MD, Department of Head and Neck Surgery, UCLA School of Medicine, Los Angeles, California, and published in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery by the American Medical Association.
