When Botox Parties Go Wrong PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 04 July 2006
Botox is one of the simplest of all the cosmetic surgeries that can be administered today. Botox was once the new cosmetic surgery and is now all the rage throughout Hollywood and becoming mainstream very quickly! Botox requires no recovery time, you could even get a botox procedure done during your lunch hour at work - this is how quickly it can be performed and over with. However, all is not without risk and the growing popularity of so-called botox parties can pose health risks aver and above those associated with botox procedures performed in a licensed surgeon’s facilities.

As you may know, botox is a procedure that is used to get rid of wrinkles and any sign of aging at all. This is why it is such a rage in Hollywood even more today than it was when it first came out on the cosmetic surgery market. This procedure is simple and requires a simple injection of botox and the procedure is normally done within ten minutes. There is no anesthesia required for this form of cosmetic surgery but your doctor may choose to numb the area with an ice pack or a cream to reduce any discomfort on your part. If you do experience any discomfort with botox it is usually very minimal.

The biggest new fad in California and sweeping the USA is botox parties. If you have ever been to a Tupperware party in the past this is a similar type of social gathering. These types of party require a waiver for each patient to sign as they are not in the doctor’s office and the risk is greater if you are not having a cosmetic procedure done in the hospital or doctor’s surgery. These parties include a greater amount of risk than if you were going to see a professional cosmetic surgeon because you may not be 100% sure that the host of this party is a licensed doctor or what their medical history is like. This is a risk that many people are taking regardless, with their focus on the results they are hoping for. What these people do not realize is that if the host is not as qualified as they think the patients could end up with some very permanent defects if the botox is injected incorrectly.

The second problem with these botox parties comes from mixing cosmetic surgical procedures and alcohol. This is not a good idea and is causing people to make the wrong decisions and endure many unbearable side effects. Alcohol should never be mixed with any type of cosmetic procedure, especially botox as it is an injection of natural poisons into your skin.

These botox parties are creating a mockery of the cosmetic surgery world. Botox is a medical procedure just like anything else and should be treated as one, not as a novelty act for Friday night social gatherings. These parties are facing more and more problems the more popular they become but they are still in great demand. The longer these parties continue, the less severe and serious botox will seem. These parties are making botox look like a do-it-yourself cosmetic procedure, giving many men and women the wrong idea.
