Anna Nicole Smith's death linked to recent breast implant surgery

A number of news sources in the United States are suggesting links between the recent death of Anna Nicole Smith, and recent plastic surgery that she underwent to repair one of her breast implants.

There had been initial speculation that Ms. Smith, 39, had died as a result of consumption of alcohol and prescription medications. However, Dr. Joshua Perper, who conducted the autopsy has now said that there were no signs that she had consumed alcohol on the day of her death.

''There was no scent of alcohol in her stomach lining, no residue, nothing," the Miami Herald quoted Perper as saying.

Some news sources claim that Ms. Smith had undergone plastic surgery to repair a leak in one of her breast implants, and that she exhibited "flu-like symptoms" in the days befoe she died. One possibility that is being explored is that these were symptoms not of influenza, but of an infection resulting from the surgery.

Ms. Smith had been prescribed more than 10 types of painkillers, but there is speculation that she may have been exceeding the maximum recommended dosage in order to overcome a tolerance that she is said to have built up as a result of extended use.
