It was also verified by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons that more reductions are occurring for gynaecomastia (excessive development of the breasts in males); in 2008, procedures for this condition increased by 44% in the UK. The surgical procedure for man boobs or moobs is not available on the NHS at this time, except when the patient is determined to have serious psychological pain. We have had a steady rise in numbers in Scotland despite the current recession. The problem has always existed but it is only very recently that people have started talking about it and realising that they can do something about it,said by Shami Thomas, who is a spokesperson for Transform. She added, Those who have undergone the treatment say it has completely transformed their lives. Even though scientists are not sure, some of them think that cases of gynaecomastia are rising due to increasing levels of the female hormone estrogen in the environment, which is consumed via food and drink. However, there are events wherein the cases of moobs are caused by a long-lasting hormonal imbalance that brings forth to the development of surplus breast tissues. |
