£23,000 Spent on Cosmetic Surgical Procedures by the Age of 24 PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 28 June 2009
More and more young women are going under the knife. However, one might ask what inspires these fresh-faced women to shell out a fortune on causing themselves to look fake.

Chloe Loughlin has just turned only 24, but she has already shelled out about £23,000 on cosmetic surgical procedures. And she said that she is not over yet. She swore that she will avail of more surgical procedures as she gets older. When she was 19, after her first surgical operation, any sentiments of graciously growing old have been eliminated. She said,

When I get to an age where everything is starting to drop then, of course, I’d consider more surgery. She added, But I wouldn’t want to end up going over the top and looking like Joan Rivers! I’ll know when to stop. Personally, I like the fake look. I used to be very insecure but now I’ve got so much confidence. I work hard, I’ve got the money to spend and what’s wrong with wanting to feel good about myself?

The beautiful presurgery Chloe is long gone. She did not like the way she looked back then. She mentioned that she was distraught when she went on a diet when she was 16 and saw her breasts to reduce in size. She even went down at one point to an A-cup, which made her feel very insecure. That self-consciousness started up her obsession with surgical procedures. She said that she looked at it as an instant remedy for her unhappiness. She remarked,

It was great to get the weight off but I was gutted that my boobs totally disappeared. I researched into boob jobs because I knew once I was old enough that’s what I was going to do. There was never any question. She added, My friends told me I was fine as I was but I didn’t feel right. By the time I was 19 I was desperate.

To pay for her £7,500 surgery at a Transform Cosmetic Surgery clinic, Chloe, who is from Surbiton, Surrey, drew out a bank loan. Her surgery included liposuction procedures on her stomach and thighs. The procedure made her lifted from a B-cup to an E-cup, which made her feel pleased with the results. She said, “I was so excited. I loved my new boobs and couldn’t wait to get them out! It took around three weeks for the swelling to go down and another three of wearing support bras. But I healed really quickly and I remember the first time I went out in a little top.” She added,

I just felt so confident, really great. Other people were impressed as well and gave me compliments about how good I looked. “I felt better about myself than I had done in a long time.

Chloe said that she was so elated by her new appearance, and it was not long before she began planning for more procedures. The firs operation was quickly followed by Botox treatment. Then she followed that with dermal fillers in her nose, face and lips. As she went after her dream body, she also spent hundreds of pounds on facial peels, microdermabrasions, teeth whitening, and laser hair removal.

Chloe said, “I saved up for everything because I always want to look my best. The first time I had Botox there was a huge difference. I liked having a smooth forehead. I know things can go wrong and I’ve seen the horror stories. But I did my research and I’ve never had any problems.”

In 2008, Chloe again took out a loan for an £8,000 surgical operation for another breast lift. This time, she had her boobs boosted and increased to a G-cup size. She said, “I just wanted to be that little bit bigger. I knew I wanted to look a certain way and having surgery again didn’t scare me. I love them even more than before.”

However, as reported by the experts, Chloe could be using cosmetic surgical procedures as a temporary solution to a much deeper dilemma. A consultant psychologist at London Medical Centre, Ingrid Collins remarks, “As cosmetic surgery becomes more accessible it’s being seen as the panacea for all ills. But often after surgery, people realise they’re still the same person facing the same challenges. I think that if a person is brought up being told how lovely they are, then they shouldn’t feel the need to alter themselves.” She also said that current celebrity culture puts a lot of pressure on young people to have an appearance in a specific way. She stated,

We are far more image conscious than we used to be. We are exposed to air-brushed images and people celebrated for their looks more than their actual achievements. Yes, we’ve always had icons and ‘beauties’ but not like this. I wish more people could appreciate the beauty of a lived-in face. It’s actually our imperfections which make us beautiful. If there were more people in the public eye who were proud of their lines, crinkles and wrinkles then maybe things would be different.

For sure, Chloe will not be accepting her wrinkles any time in the future. Aside from her regular Botox treatments, every year, she also spends thousands of pounds on spray tanning, hair extensions and colour, acrylic nails and gym membership. One would definitely be amazed how she could find time for everything. She admitted, “It can be hard finding the time! But if I’m going out for the night I want to look and feel fantastic.”

Chloe’s mate Lee, who is a 25-year-old contractor and plans to marry her next year, is sympathetic of his girl’s search for perfection. And he enjoys Chloe drawing in interests from other men. Chloe said, “Lee loves me the way I am but, whatever I want to do, he backs me up. Luckily, he’s not the jealous type. In fact, he likes it when other blokes look at me. It makes him feel proud that I’m with him. But I honestly haven’t done this for anyone other than myself.”

Chloe could possibly have shelled out more on her looks than many people could make in a year. However, she said that she would not change a thing. She added,

My friends tell me I don’t need any more surgery and I wouldn’t tell my mum before I had any more because I think she would kill me. But I definitely have no regrets. It’s been worth every penny.
