Late last year, Dr. John Newkirk was contacted by a Los Angeles TV producer who requested an interview with Dr Newkirk on behalf of the fictional Kazakh journalist. “He said Borat wanted to learn more about American life,” Newkirk said. “And since a lot of Americans get plastic surgery, he wanted to spend some time with an American plastic surgeon.” He gave his permission for the interview, and on the day of filming, was presented with a release form just before the cameras started rolling. Thinking that Borat was a real journalist, he signed the waiver. “It was the most bizarre conversation I’ve had in my whole life,” Newkirk said. Borat inquired about penile enlargements and breast augmentation, before requesting a surgically enhanced pot belly, saying that this is a sign of wealth in Kazakhstan. “I told him he could eat enough junk food while he was here to make his own pot belly.” Throughout the interview, Dr. Newkirk felt that he was being encouraged to say something ridiculous, but he didn't take the bait and the film producers were left empty handed. “I went to the movies last Friday fully expecting to be in the movie,” Newkirk said. “I guess they didn't get anything they think would be funny enough.
