Indian Army personnel clamour for free plastic surgery PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 10 May 2007
Such is the demand for free plastic surgery from Indian Army officers and their wives that the Army's Southern Command Hospital is to introduce a dedicated aesthetic surgery division within the next two months.
The new aesthetic surgery division will offer liposuction, eyelid operations, breast reductions and implants and facelifts. With military personnel entitled to free treatment at the hospital, sources say that many officers have been undergoing procedures to enhance their appearance in a competitive workplace, adding that there have been many noted instances of officers inline for a promotion opting for eyelid surgery and Botox treatment.

Approximately 15% of the hospital's workload is cosmetic in nature and such is the demand that the aesthetic division will have its own plastic surgeons, dermatologists and dental experts. The hospital's commandant, Major-General Pradeep Bhargavaan, himself an expert in reconstructive surgery, said that the new clinic will also offer facial rejuvenation, hair transplants and body contouring.

One procedure expected to be in high demand is that of breast reduction for gynecomastia or "man boobs". A recent study by lipo.com found that 3 of the 5 top cities in the world searching the internet for man boobs were in India.
