Irish to spend their savings on cosmetic Surgery PDF Print E-mail

The Irish, reported to have a great interest in cosmetic surgery, will soon be using the rewards of a tax driven investment scheme to beautify themselves with cosmetic surgery.
Ireland's Special Saving Incentive Accounts or SSIAs were designed as a five year savings plan in 2001, and are now becoming ready to withdraw, with a survey reporting that 4% of savers plan to spend their money on cosmetic surgery. Consequently, Irish cosmetic surgeons say that business is booming, with spending up 30% in the last year alone and waiting lists now becoming the norm.

Dr Patrick Treacy of the Ailesbury Clinic in Dublin reports that customers are now opting for "procedures that are less invasive, reproducible, safer and those that can be performed during a coffee break". The top five non-invasive procedures in Ireland are:
Another surgeon reports that Irish customers are taking a longer term approach to the procedures they choose, switching away from short term fixes such as Botox, and switching to laser rejuvenation and radio frequency treatments.

For invasive procedures, the most popular remain breast augmentation (€5,000) and liposuction (€5,000), but there has been an increase in demand for gastric banding (€10,000), popularised by celebrities such as Sharon Osbourne.
