Man Boob Reduction Surgical Procedure Gets a Boost as Summer Approaches PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 July 2009
There has been an increase in the number of men who go under the knife, as observed by surgeons, in an attempt to enhance their looks and be all set for the holidays. It was disclosed by recent data from a top provider of cosmetic surgical procedures that a considerable number of British men are pressured by toned up leaders commonly seen in the media such as Barack Obama.

They are going for surgeries like gynaecomastia (male breast reduction) and liposculpture to slim down.
It has been observed that there is a noticeable rise in the number of men looking for man boob (moob) reductions on April, May, June and July each year. In 2007, 45% of surgical procedures were carried out during these months up to the summer season; in 2008, this increased to 46%. In 2009, this trend continued, with 39% of the moob reduction operations conducted in March.

Across the nation, the number of men getting cosmetic surgical procedures has now increased to nearly 10 for every 100 patients, as reported by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. Moob reductions have exceeded all other surgical operations, thanks to a rise of 44% in 2008 nationwide.

In addition to preholiday fears, British men are exhibiting ‘final straw syndrome’ signs, where issues on their body during their summer holiday make them look for a surgical procedure on their return.

Most men are going after a liposculpture procedure during September, October and November. In 2007, 33% of the procedures were carried out during the said three months; it was more than 25% in 2008.

The Chief Executive of The Hospital Group, David Ross, stated,

Many men have body image problems and low self-esteem. They may have been teased at school or in the gym about the fat on their chests, and summer brings added pressure. The surgery we offer is fantastic because men see results so quickly, which gives them the confidence to hit the beach and live happier, healthier lifestyles.

He also further mentioned,

Men see images of sculpted celebrities like Barack Obama, who manages to run a country and have a fit, toned body, and feel the pressure to look the same. We always see female interest leading up to the summer, but over the last few years we have also seen a noted increase from men. A man undergoing cosmetic surgery just isn’t the taboo it once was and they are proud to get out there and flaunt their new bodies.
