A UK plastic surgery clinic has attracted criticism because of its decision to offer interest free loans to prospective patients to pay for their surgery.
The Transform Group has offered controversial promotional schemes in the past, including two-for-one deals, a loyalty card for continued procedures and holiday vouchers. It also put together a special plastic surgery package for women who had just had their divorce finalised.
Under the new finance package, patients seeking surgery will be able to apply for a loan of a minimum £500 ($950) and repay it without any interest charges over a year. The company insists that the finance package makes plastic surgery affordable to more people, but medical experts warned consumers to be wary, saying that they should focus their decision making process on finding a good surgeon, not a cheap deal.
Douglas McGeorge, a consultant plastic surgeon and president of BAAPS said: "When considering aesthetic surgery, price should not rule. While the fees clearly need to be considered, it should never be the primary factor in selecting a plastic surgeon. The surgeon's training, qualifications and experience are key to the success of cosmetic surgery."
