Spanish spend 800 million on plastic surgery PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 26 February 2007
The Spanish spent €800 million last year on cosmetic surgery, undergoing 400,000 operations, according to figures released by the Spanish Plastic Surgery Association.
The average cost of each operation was €2,000, compared to the average cost of €180 in the UK, reflecting the more invasive nature of procedures favoured by Spaniards. The figures show that Spain is now the largest market for plastic surgery in Europe.

The most popular procedure was breast implants, with over 30,000 implants fitted last year. As with the US, liposuction is the next most favoured procedure. 20% of patients were men, who favour eyelid surgery and tummy tucks.

David Mills, of Mills & Mills in Marbella, said: "Cosmetic surgery is very much a part of Spanish life; partly perhaps, because of the beautiful all year round climate makes outdoor and beach life very popular."
