The Harley Medical Group, a cosmetic surgery provider based in UK, has recently accounted an increase in the number of women at least 45 years of age paying a visit to its 26 clinics in 2009 compared with the same period in 2008. The group has also disclosed a growing number of sugar moms paying for surgical procedures to maintain their fresh look especially for new relationships.
Staffs reported that numerous female patients of this age bracket cited their relationship with a younger partner as the reason for having plastic surgery and nonsurgical operations. Some of these sugar moms even used their divorce money to fund the surgical operations.Women dating younger men, inspired by celebrities like Madonna and Jennifer Aniston, want to look fresh and young through a combination of cosmetic surgery and nonsurgical operations. Botox treatment is the most sought-after procedure for the age group 45 and above, with treatments up 13% year on year. The most popular surgical alternative is the rhytidoplasty procedure, with a rise in the number of patients of more than 10% year on year. Of all patients at The Harley Medical Group, which has been providing male and female facial rejuvenation operations since 1983, 82.5% are women.
The director of the group, Liz Dale, says, Many women will have thought about having treatment on a particular part of their body for years before coming to see us. In most cases, it appears having a younger partner is simply a catalyst to taking positive action to reduce the appearance of, for example, a furrowed forehead or sagging jowls. Women aged over 45 are increasingly citing divorce and embarking on a new relationship as reasons for years undergoing rejuvenation treatments. Mark Keenan, who is the founder of the online divorce service Divorce Online, remarks, Women are increasingly factoring in extra money in their divorce settlements for cosmetic treatments. After a stressful, unhappy divorce period many want to overhaul their life and often having a relationship with a younger man helps them feel energised. We are seeing more and more women making the most of the extra money and time they have by, for example, going travelling, buying a car or getting some cosmetic work done—our clients see it as part of the starting-over process.
