Because this procedure removes the need to inject the patient with solution, the recovery period for patients is dramatically reduced, with less bleeding during the procedure and a consequent reduction in complication rates from the operation. "The idea is to avoid all the disadvantage of the current method, as [it involves] collecting a lot of fluid in the body which may harm the patient not only within the operation, but also after that," said Dr Harmut Meyer, Medical Director of Praxisklinik Brahmsallee in Singapore. The other advantage of the water assisted liposuction procedure is that fat removed during the procedure can be transplanted to other parts of the body, since it will have been less contaminated with blood during the procedure. The concept of transplanting fat removed during liposuction has gained popularity in recent years, especially where the transplanted fat is used for a breast augmentation. |
