Chilean man makes meatballs from his liposuctioned fat PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 15 January 2007
Chilean "artist" Marco Evaristti has undergone liposuction and used the fat removed to create a dish of meatballs which he served to friends.
"Ladies and gentleman, bon appetit and may god bless," said Evaristti, with a glass of wine in his hand, to his dining companions sitting around a table in Santiago's Animal Gallery.

"The question of whether or not to eat human flesh is more important than the result," he said, in an attempt to explain the purpose of his art.

"You are not a cannibal if you eat art," he added.

Asked how the meatballs tasted, one of his dining companions commented: "They were a bit fatty. They tasted kind of like chicken."

In total, Evaristti made 48 meatballs with the fat removed in his liposuction. He intends canning some of them, to be sold to art lovers, at $4,000 for a tin of 10.

Mr Evaristti's previous works of art include covering an iceberg in red food dye, and putting live goldfish in blenders and inviting members of the public to flick the switch on the blender. Unsurprisingly, two visitors to the art gallery did flick the switch and the gallery owner was prosecuted for animal cruelty.
