Lipo doctor's office searched by police PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 01 August 2007
Police have raided the office of an Arizona based liposuction specialist, following the death of three patients who had undergone liposuction procedures.
Police obtained a warrant to search the Anthem, Az., office of Dr. Peter Normann, but on arrival, found the clinic closed and empty, apart from the doctor's medical records. These records have now been sealed by the County Superior Court in case they will be used as evidence in any possible trial.

"We're in the process of interviewing patients to ascertain the experience they went through regarding the doctors in question and the employees," said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

The investigation into Normann and colleagues at the Normann Medical Group began last month after the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners suspended Normann's licence. This followed the death of three patients - Ralph Gonzalez, Alicia Santizo and an unidentified patient - following liposuction procedures.

It transpired that the third patient who died had his liposuction procedure conducted by a hoemopathic doctor, Dr. Gary Page. He was suspended by the Arizona Board of Homeopathic Medical Examiners last month, following the deaths. Arpaio said he is investigating Page too.

"This case is going forward, and we expect some resolution in the near future," Arpaio said. "It's one of our top priorities."
