The Arizona liposuction doctor whose licence was revoked following the death of three people undergoing liposuction procedures at his clinic has, according to lawyers in the case, apparently disappeared.

Dr. Peter Normann, of Anthem, Arizona, lost his medical practice earlier this year, choosing not to appear before the medical board's hearing. The case against him was brought following the death of three patients undergoing liposuction at his clinic between December 2006 and July 2007. During the hearing, his office practices were described to the Arizona Medical Board as a "surgical nightmare".

Barry Lewin, an attorney representing the mother of one of the Arizona doctor's patients said that he had no idea where Dr. Normann is and that the doctor does not appear to have either an attorney or malpractice insurance.

I don't have a clue where he is. I could file for an entry of default, but there are no available assets, so there would be no point.

The liposuction doctor was served with court papers but has not responded. Lewin claims that several legal notices sent to the doctor's address were returned as undeliverable, and that Dr. Normann failed to show up for a deposition.

Kevin Keenan, a lawyer representing another of Normann's victims, said that if Dr. Normann fails to respond to the lawsuit, he will seek a judgement in his clients' favor. However, he has no plans to consider Dr. Normann's assets until such a judgement is delivered.
