Liposuction Changes From a Major Surgical Procedure to a Quick Touch PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 17 June 2009
A new fat removal laser treatment was shown on a recent episode of "The Doctors" on Channel 11, which caused a lot of interest from their local viewers. Jennifer Abney of Channel 11 then searched for a local doctor to get the real deal on this treatment.

Dr. Brian Heil, who is a board-certified plastic surgeon, stated,

Anytime new technology is released or given press, everyone wants to find out about it.  It is a great way to pique people's interest and it can be dangerous if people self-prescribe treatments.

For about one year and a half, Dr. Heil has been carrying out a similar treatment.

It is a laser lipolisis treatment, which liquefies the fat before it is removed from the body, he accounted. Standard lipo basically removes the fat in its normal state.

This surgical treatment, which Dr. Heil said costs about $2,800¬$4,000 for the first region, has some distinct benefits. It aids in tightening the skin. Also, nearly all patients have less swelling and pain as compared to one who underwent a regular liposuction procedure. Dr. Heil also mentioned that although, for most, this is an outpatient treatment, normally, a patient should take a couple of days to heal.

However, one might ask how the laser exactly melts the fat away. Dr Heil said, "It doesn't emit heat; it emits light. When it is received into the skin, it then becomes heat." He also stated that the light at the end of the laser allows a doctor to trace it under the skin. Therefore, the probe can be observed moving beneath the skin.

Dr. Heil also mentioned that it is crucial to go with the right patient for the right treatment. He said,

The best candidates are people who have small areas to treat. This would be used to contour those small unwanted trouble spots that diet and exercise seem to still leave us with.

Also, another bonus of this procedure is that it lacks scarring. Dr. Heil attested,

So this is the lipo scar that fools the other people who have had lipo.

One should know that this is still a surgical procedure, and just like any other surgery, there is the danger of infection. However, if the operation is carried out properly, the risks are minimal, according to Dr. Heil.
