Women undergoing liposuction to the waist and hips have discovered a positive side effect to the procedure - increased breast size. A study published by the American Society for Dermatological Surgery reports that 34% of women undergoing liposuction report a significant increase in bra cup size up to one year after the liposuction procedure.
Researchers speculate that the increase in breast size is due to a change in the balance of androgen to estrogen hormones in female patients that occurs after liposuction. The hormones influence the presence of fat cell receptors and are thought to play a part in the development of female breast tissue.
The study compared the liposuction results of 70 female patients who had undergone a liposuction procedure to the waist and hip area. Of these 70 women, 26 reported an increase in breast size one year after the procedure. Of these 26 women who reported an increase in breast size, 17 reported that the size of their breasts had increased by at least one cup size.
