Using a new process, called SmartLipo, patients can now have liposuction carried out in as little as an hour. Ushering in the era of what is being called “Lunchtime Liposuction”, the process aims to increase the availability of liposuction to prospective patients who would otherwise be put off by the disruption to their life that might be caused by a conventional liposuction procedure. Typical treatment areas include double chins, love handles and buttock, thigh and upper arm re-shaping. Depending on the size of the area to be treated, this form of liposuction takes an average of one hour, although doctors advise a recovery period of up to 5 weeks, advising patients to avoid strenuous sports and hot showers for 10 days, or intense massage for 4-5 weeks. Apart from the obvious advantage of shorter treatment times, SmartLipo also reduces the amount of bruising and swelling that is associated with conventional, more invasive forms of liposuction. Results of SmartLipo can be seen immediately in most cases, although many patients will have to wait several days for any swelling or bruising to heal, allowing them to see the full benefits of their new look. If the patient maintains a healthy lifestyle, through regular exercise and controlled diet, the results are usually long lasting. |
