Regulator seeks court order to observe Canadian liposuction physicians PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 27 May 2008
Three Toronto physicians may be forced to open their doors to Ontario's medical regulatory body if an application to the court by the College of Physicians and Surgeons is successful. The court order would allow the college to send inspectors into the private clinics of the physicians to examine their plastic surgical practices, by questioning the doctors and observing them perform cosmetic surgery procedures.
One of the three doctors is the Toronto Cosmetic Clinic's Dr. Behnaz Yazdanfar, who performed liposuction on Krista Stryland, a 32 year old realtor. Stryland died later, on September 20th, 2007, at North York General Hospital.

Also to be investigated is Dr. Eli Judah, following the report of a coroner into the death of a Toronto woman who died three years ago following abdominal liposuction and an abdominoplasty carried out by Dr. Judah.

The third doctor who is the subject of the court application is Dr. Padma Jain, who is accused of failing to comply with the Regulated Health Professions Act. The college body alleges in the court application that Dr. Jain refused to allow an investigator, "a duly qualified medical practitioner" into her practice to observe surgical procedures.

At the time of writing, none of the allegations have been proven in court.
