Skin Activating Liposuction PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 10 May 2007
A Beverly Hills plastic surgeon claims that he has pioneered a novel approach to treating loose skin resulting from liposuction.
Dr. Lloyd Krieger, Medical Director of Rodeo Drive Plastic surgery claims that his process, which he has called Skin Activating Liposuction, is unique, but other surgeons have responded by saying that the technique is an established practice which has simply been given a new label.

The technique described by Dr. Krieger uses conventional tumescent liposuction to remove excess fat, and then irritates the inside surface of the skin in the treated area, causing the skin to tighten as it heals. He claims that this irritation, which he calls activation of the skin, helps tighten the treated area, resulting in a tauter, leaner appearance.

However, other plastic surgeons and liposuction specialists claim that the concept of activating the skin is a nonsense, since the skin is already active, living tissue, and that the notion of deliberately irritating skin during a liposuction procedure may not be advisable to all patients. One source said "This concept of skin activating liposuction doesn't really stand up to scrutiny, since the skin is an elastic living organ that doesn't need to be activated. The elasticity of a person's skin is determined largely by age, but except in extreme cases requiring post liposuction body sculpting to remove excess skin, this sounds like a new name for an established procedure".
