The newest development in noninvasive cosmetic surgery has been approved by the FDA for uses other than the face. Thermage Inc., the pioneer of the thermage procedure, initially designed to treat wrinkles and improve facial contour, is now developing treatment options for areas of the body such as the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, and hands.
Thermage technology operates on a radiofrequency that smoothes wrinkles and creates healthier looking skin through the insertion of collagen into the surface. This new age-defying procedure has received a warm reception from the cosmetic field for its noninvasive, incision free, safe and effective results. Minor side effects reported have included some redness or light blistering in the area of the treatment and reportedly only last for a period of days.CEO of Thermage Inc. Stephen Fanning commented that the new FDA approval, “begins a whole new chapter”, for the company. Thermage Inc. is hoping to expand their treatment to be useful for buttocks, abdomen, legs, thighs and hands in the near future.
