Chinese men want surgery to look more feminine PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 12 December 2006
Young men in Shanghai are turning to plastic surgery to feminise their looks. According to a Shanghai based surgeon, more than half of his clients are men aged between 18 and 26, and the most popular requests are for smaller faces, pointed chins and straightened noses.
The surgeon notes that a slightly effeminate look is deemed quite fashionable among the city's fledgling population of "metrosexuals". Taiwanese pop star Zaizia is a well known example of male celebrities sporting effeminate looks and has, according to surgeons, the face that most male clients wish to resemble.

Plastic surgery in China is reported to be booming, fuelled in part by the growing affluence of the middle class and professional elite, and also by competition among career professionals, where there is a strong belief that looking good will enhance one's career prospects.
