Separately, the Association of Plastic Surgeons in Ireland has expressed its concerns about the Irish plastic surgery industry in a submission to the Irish Medical Council. Dr. Michael Earley, a leading consultant plastic surgeon at Dublin's Mater Hospital said that there were few members of the Association who had not seen complications arise after procedures were carried out in private cosmetic surgery clinics. Recently, the Irish Medical Council suspended a French surgeon pending an enquiry into his work and after-care in the field of gastric banding. Jim Higgins, the politician who raised the issue says that he will now ask the European Commission to investigate cosmetic surgery across the EU and recommend those best practices that should be enforced. |
