It is understood that Donda West then underwent the tummy tuck and breast augmentation procedure under Dr. Jan R Adams of the Brentwood Surgery Center last Friday. While she was recuperating at home, she stopped breathing on Saturday and paramedics were called. They rushed her to Centinela Freeman Regional Medical Center in Marina Del Rey, where resuscitation efforts failed, according to Deborah Ettinger, a hospital vice president. The 53 year old surgeon who performed the initial cosmetic surgery, Dr Jan Adams, has a reputation as a surgeon to Hollywood's elite and has made numerous media appearances on shows such as Oprah, Entertainment Tonight, The Other Half and Extra, also hosting his own TV program on Discovery Health Channel called "Plastic Surgery: Before and After". However, he is currently under investigation by the California State Medical Board which could suspend or revoke his licence because of alcohol-related arrests. He was arrested on March 31 2006 and found guilty of driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 percent or greater. Following the trial, he was sentenced to 96 hours in Los Angeles County jail, had to enroll in an alcohol treatment and counseling program and attend 60 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and spend five years on probation. Three years earlier, in January 2003, he pleaded "no contest" to a DUI charge and placed on three year's probation. In addition to the arrest for DUI, Dr Adams has been the defendant in several malpractice suits, including five filed this year alone in Orange County, and is said to have paid out settlements of $467,000 in two civil cases before the Los Angeles Superior Court in 2001. |
