The charges relate to 19 incidents involving 10 patients. Alongside the allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use, are allegations of gross negligence, incompetence and failure to maintain records when performing liposuction and breast augmentation procedures. One charge alleges that on one occasion, he used breast implants that were too large for the breast pocket. The health department said that Jacobs failed to perform adequate physical exams or take adequate health histories of some patients, as well as failing to follow up when some patients experienced post surgical complications. Jacobs' lawyer, Michael Kelton, said the allegations are unfounded. A hearing has been scheduled for June 28. In a statement on Dr Jacobs' website, he complains about the media being manipulated by "a few disgruntled individuals who are attempting to advance their own economic agendas" and says that he looks forward to being cleared so that he can resume his practice. Dr Jacobs paid damages of $130,000 in 2005 when he lost a malpractice suit, following a breast augmentation procedure. He has made more than 20 out of court settlements since 1998. |
