Two women attending the same plastic surgery clinic in Spain have died within a week of each other. The clinic, Clinica Evangelica, is Barcelona, Spain's second largest city, has opened an investigation into the separate deaths.
The first of the women to die was a 44 year old woman who had undergone an abdominoplasty. After being discharged, she collapsed as she was leaving the clinic. Although she received emergency medical assistance, she could not be resuscitated and later died.
The second woman to die was a 33 year old woman, who suffered a thromboembulism after undergoing surgery.
Samuel Fabra, the clinic's medical director, said that the post-mortem examination of both women showed no negligence and that the deaths were co-incidental and the result of normal risks associated with any invasive surgery. Spanish health authorities have now launched an investigation into the clinic.
