Want a Breast Surgery? Beware of the Surgeon PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 24 June 2009
If you are you planning on having a boob job or liposuction procedure, be sure that you go to a certified surgeon. Each year, over 500,000 Canadians look for cosmetic improvements, and studies report that just 25% of them have done their research in advance.

Tania, who is from Waterdown, Ontario, assured first that she was informed before making the big decision. In April 2008, when she was 31 years old, she underwent breast enhancement. She said,

I was an A. I’m a C now. I love it, I love it. You know what? I love it!
For two years, she did her homework before settling on having the surgical procedure be performed by Dr. Frank Lista, who is a licensed surgeon and also the medical director of the Plastic Surgery Clinic, which is located in Mississauga, Ontario.

However, not all people visit a certified doctor. Dr. Lista is very disturbed by the fact that patients are being tempted by nonsurgeons. He said, “A non surgeon can do surgery on a patient without restriction.” He added,

I see people all the time who say, ‘my breast surgery was botched or liposuction has ruined my life.’ I ask who did it and find out it was not a plastic surgeon. People are being misled.

An example of this is the case when a person might publicize that they are a “licensed cosmetic surgeon” even if there is no such specialization. Dr. Lista remarked, “These people are sneaky.” He also said that patients have to be cautious because, unfortunately, the cosmetic surgery field is not regulated. He added,

Restaurants are better regulated than surgical facilities.

The Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery have collaborated to let Canadians be aware that they need to be careful when looking for surgical procedures such as rhytidoplasties, breast enhancements, and liposuction.

Before committing themselves to a surgeon, it is advised that patients seeking for a surgical enhancement should ask the surgeon first if he or she is a licensed one, the number of surgeries he or she has carried out, and if he or she has hospital privileges (and which hospitals) to conduct these types of surgical procedures.

Tania wound up with Dr. Lista because she assessed his qualifications on the centre’s website, and she considered that he was very trustworthy. When she visited the doctor for a consultation, she said that she “liked the vibe” of the clinic. She suggested to those who like to go under the knife,

Do a lot of research. Speak to someone who has had it done. If you go in looking for a deal, you’re looking for trouble.

She also mentioned that she is very happy with her new size C breasts, which cost her $6,500. She said, “I feel they’re part of my body and I’ve always had them.”
