Drinking water helps weight loss PDF Print E-mail

Researchers in Oakland, California have discovered that drinking at least four glasses of water a day, instead of sugary sodas can significantly help people lose weight.
The study looked at the diet of 240 women who were classified as overweight (body mass index of greater than 25). After 12 months, women who had replaced sugary sodas with water lost and additional three pounds of weight, compared to women in the study who continued to drink sodas.

The scientist who led the study believes that it was not just the reduction in sugar intake that helped with the weight loss, but the benefit to the body of the additional fluid.

"If the cells in our bodies are well hydrated, we may be able to burn more calories" she said, adding that more research was needed to determine the exact mechanism of how water stimulates weight loss.
