Following the FDA ban on the ingredient ephedra, Nutrex Research, manufacturers of Lipo 6 have taken the opportunity to revamp the product. The new Lipo 6 contains the same core ingredients as its predecessor, with the obvious absence of ephedra.
The active ingredients in the relaunched Lipo 6 are: Synephrine is the main "active" compound found in the fruit called variosuly green orange, sour orange and bitter orange. Because synephrine is a stimulant, (like caffeine and ephedrine), it is claimed to have similar effects in terms of boosting energy, suppressing a person's appetite and increasing the metabolic rate and caloric expenditure. Because it stimulates specific beta-3 receptors, but doesn't stimulate beta-1, beta-2 or alpha-1 receptors, it is claimed to stimulate fat metabolism without the negative cardiovascular side effects experienced by some people (such as increased blood pressure and palpitations). However, isolated synephrine has been shown to raise blood pressure in tests and Lipo 6 is not suitable for patients with a history of blood pressure or cardiac problems.
Guggulsterones are a mixture of several compounds isolated from the Indian tree Commiphora Mukul (also called Gum Guggul). They are included in Lipo 6 in order to increase the patient's thyroid activity, increasing the level of the body's thyroid hormones T3 and T4. They are also claimed to decrease the patient's tryglycerides and LDL cholestrol, while increasing the levels of HDL cholestrol.
Lipo 6 also contains Yohimbe, an extract of the African Yohimbe tree bark. It has been used in a prescription drug in the US to treat erectile dysfunction and is also thought to excite parts of the brain associated with a patient's libido. It is included in Lipo 6 because of its stimulant properties. Yohimbe can decrease blood pressure through blocking alpha receptors although its efficacy in doing this is clinically unpredictable. Yohimbe should not be taken by patients taking either SSRI or MAOI anti-depressants because of its interaction with these medications. The FDA is currently investigating several products containing yohimbe, which are alleged to have caused renal failure, seizures and death.
Caffeine is a stimulant and is classified as a trimethylxanthine. Its inclusion in Lipo 6 stimulates the release of epinephrine (adrenaline). In this forumlation, the inclusion of caffeine is designed to stimulate the mobilization of fatty acids, which in turn is designed to increase fat oxidation for weight loss.
Bioperine is an extract from the fruits of the black pepper and long pepper plants. Biperine extract is claimed to increase the increase the bodies ability to absorb supplemented nutrients. It is included in Lipo 6 to assist vitamin and mineral uptake.
Lipo 6 reviews:
People who have tried Lipo-6 for weight loss have reported mixed results. Those who have combined the product with a healthy regime of balanced meals, no snacking and regular exercise have reported significant weight loss in relatively short periods. This has been achieved without dieting, while following a healthy diet.
On the other hand, there are reports of customers suffering unpleasant side effects of Lipo 6, such as palpitations and anxiety, most likely a result of the stimulant nature of most of the active ingredients.
