Seventy percent of Americans interviewed in a survey admitted they are at least 5 pounds overweight, and three quarters of all adult Americans want to lose some weight.
The survey, conducted by UPI-Zogby International, had the following survey results:
- 22.3% consider themselves to be at their correct weight
- 37.5% feel that they are 5-20 pounds overweight
- 20.4% feel that they are 21-50 pounds overweight
- 12.1% feel that they are more than 50 pounds overweight
In terms of weight loss goals, the survey found that:
- 34.6% want to lose more than 25 pounds
- 35.7% want to lose 1-25 pounds
- 24% want to lose 5-10 pounds
However, these results and goals are likely to stay the same next year, if the efforts of Americans in the last year is anything to go by. Nearly half of the respondents didn't even try to lose weight last year, despite the majority of these admitting that they were overweight and wanted to lose weight.
