A weight loss clinic in Los Angeles arranged for a troop of Girl Scouts selling cookies to be ejected from a shopping mall.
The weight loss clinic was said to be acting in response to complaints from some of its weight loss clients about the girls selling the cookies to raise money for local scouts. The girls were selling cookies in front of a neighbouring Blockbuster video store, so the weight loss clinic contacted the Blockbuster management and got the girl scouts moved on.
However, the CEO of the Weight Loss Center, Vahan Karian, subsequently apologized and bought $2,000 of cookies as a goodwill gesture.
"I feel horrible about this whole thing," said Karian, who has two daughters in Girl Scouts. "I would have never pushed the little girls away. They are out there with good intentions."
Perhaps she also realised that pushing girl scouts out of a mall doesn't do much for a company's corporate image. And that people eating too many cookies is actually good for business.
