Kansas moves to regulates new LipoDissolve treatment
Friday, 27 April 2007
Kansas has become the first state in the US to introduce regulations on the new fat reduction procedure called LipoDissolve.
The Kansas Board of Healing Arts, the main medical regulator in the state, passed a regulation that will require a change in the way doctors administer the two drugs used in the LipoDissolve procedure. LipoDissolve, which remains unregulated by the FDA, involves a series of injections that break down the walls in fat cells, dissolving the fat into liquid.

The new regulation introduced by Kansas regulators now requires that doctors write an individual prescription for the drug mixture, rather than buying the drugs in bulk. Mark Stafford, general counsel for the Board of Healing Arts, said that this move was necessary because the drug combination has not yet been approved by the FDA.
